Post-awards update
Just a quick update to my previous post…
The ABC awards night was amazing and I was incredibly fortunate to receive the ABC Publishing/APRA Songwriters Recognition Award. Thanks to ABC, APRA and all the wonderful people who make this event so special.
Also, just a quick announcement that my show with Lior has unfortunately been cancelled, however he will still appear with the lovely Jess Chalker on support. I hope to make a return to Lizottes in the near future.
More gig updates soon…
Gigs and gongs
Adding to a whirlwind year, I’ve been blessed to play some magic shows recently and the last few days have been like a dream… being announced the recipient of TWO ABC music awards!
I recently played a hometown gig with my good friend Renny Field. Renny’s new album “The Arena” is a glorious recording and if you like beautiful music, I encourage you to check it out. The gig was a real treat, with Renny joining me on keys for a few songs and then me returning the favour on some of his tracks with some melodica and backing vocals. I’m pleased to say it looks like we might be getting together again early in the year so watch out for these shows.
Speaking of gigs, I’m absolutely over the moon to announce that on 27 November I’ll be supporting the incredible Lior at Lizottes Kincumber! I’ve always admired Lior’s songwriting and other-wordly live performances so I’m very much looking forward to this one.
But my breath has truly been taken away this week by the announcement of being chosen as the winner of not one but two ABC music awards! “We are the Hours” and “Borrowing From Thieves”, two tracks from the new EP, were announced as the winning songs for the Contemporary and Folk categories respectively. I am so honoured and will be heading along to the awards ceremony tomorrow night to accept the awards and enjoy the company of some great friends and fellow songwriters. It’s going to be magic I’m sure.
I’m confounded and elated that the new songs are being so warmly received, especially considering that they are so close to my heart. I recently learned that “Heart-Shaped Space” was shortlisted for the Vanda and Young Songwriting Prize, among the likes of Kevin Mitchell (aka Bob Evans), Claire Bowditch and many others.
With the theme of the week being awards, I also discovered yesterday that I have been nominated for a City of Newcastle Drama Award for my recent role in Jon English’s “Buskers & Angels”, which was staged at the Civic Playhouse back in March. It seems like a distant memory now, but to be recognised by the community I adore so much (and especially being that I consider myself a bit of a theatre dilletante) this is really wonderful news and I’m very grateful.
I feel like the luckiest girl on earth these days…
New EP online and Sept tour highlights
What a month it has been…
It only feels like yesterday that myself and a few good friends took to the Lizottes Newcastle stage to celebrate the release of the latest recording… a short collection of stories and musings inspired by life’s little twists and turns, shifts and changes and a general hankering to shake some things up and let some things go. It’s called Sleeping Dogs Lie and I hope one day it might make it’s way into some people’s minds and hearts.
I’m excited to announce that the new CD is now available to purchase from the website. Simply visit this link and place your order.
The launch was blissful… such a warm and welcoming audience and hearing my humble little songs performed live by a 6-piece band was heavenly.
I hit the road shortly after, playing solo shows in Sydney, Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Adelaide and Melbourne. Travelling solo was a really wonderful experience… just me and the road for many many miles (going by the speedo, I did well over 3000kms on my little tour. That’s a LOT of bad roadhouse coffee and singing along with the stereo at the top of my lungs).
On the way from Mt. Vic to Adelaide, I decided to stay the night in Mildura, country Victoria (10 hours on the road alone was enough for one day). Probably a wise decision considering it was right about that time that the skies were turning red with the dust being whipped up by a rather ominous electrical storm.
But it was worth the drive… having the opportunity to play at the adorable Grace Emily Hotel and spending some time getting intimate with the city of Adelaide. Then it was across to Melbourne for a few days, once again staying in the city and performing a couple of great shows (If you ever get the chance, head along to the lunchtime acoustic shows at the Melbourne City Library)
Since I’ve been back I’ve been doing a few local shows in Newcastle and Sydney (thanks to those who came along to the Excelsior in Glebe last week) and looking forward to a few more shows a bit closer to home in the coming weeks. You can find them all listed on the SHOWS page.
In other news, I’m VERY excited to announce that over the coming months I’ll be working with the delightful ladies from Pixie Music, who have now taken over as my management. Happy days! Check them out here… www.pixiemusic.com
Plenty more in the pipeline too…
New live vids
Over the coming weeks, I will be posting a few live videos of songs from the EP launch at Lizottes Newcastle on 9 Sept on myspace, facebook and ABC contribute.
